Expander is an arcade game where you try to capture weak enemies in your blast radius to set off an explosion that can destroy stronger enemies.
It was made over a couple weeks as part of an assignment for Gabe Cuzillo's Action Game Studio in Fall of 2017 at NYU.
I made Expander out of my desire to create an arcade game with a unique mechanic. In the past year, I got really into playing obscure 70s and 80s arcade games and I wanted to make a game in that style. Many of them have unique mechanics comapred to games from today since genres weren't as strictly defined then. I think I succeeded on the unique mechanic front and overall, this prototype is a solid base. If I were to continue with this project, I'd want to find a way to scale difficulty better, probably by adding different enemies besisides the "popcorn" chasers and the strong bases.
